What is a "waiting" day?

Modified on Wed, 20 Mar at 4:42 PM

A "wachtdag" refers to the first day of sickness when you are not entitled to receive payment for the hours missed. When you report your illness, the first day you are absent from work is considered a waiting day, and the hours you missed on that day will not be paid.

(If you have a subsequent sick leave within 4 weeks after returning to work, it is considered the same sickness case, and a waiting day cannot be applied again.)

Here's an example to illustrate how it works:

If you work 173.33 hours per month, the waiting day deduction would be 8 hours.

If you work 164.67 hours per month, the waiting day deduction would be 7.6 hours.

If you work  138.67 hours per month, the waiting day deduction would be 8 hours.

Please note that these examples are based on the given information and may vary depending on specific employment agreements or regulations.
